The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy is seeking candidates for a post-graduate Environmental Law & Advocacy Fellowship starting in fall 2027. The fellowship focuses on using law and science to protect Minnesota's environment and public health. The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy is accepting applications from candidates interested in a post-graduate public-interest law fellowship that would start in the fall of 2027. MCEA uses law and science to protect Minnesota’s environment, natural resources, and the health of its people. Our staff of in-house lawyers take legal actions that set important precedent and protect the people and environment of Minnesota. We fight against polluters, short-sighted policies, environmental injustices, and dirty politics.

At MCEA, we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our work and strive to create a workplace culture, policy and practice that reflects these values. We respect the individual strengths, views, and experiences of all employees and understand that we thrive in our differences.

MCEA is accepting applications through June 12, 2026. MCEA will conduct interviews thereafter. Once selected, the successful candidate and MCEA will work together to develop a fellowship proposal to submit to one or more sponsoring organizations in order to secure funding for the position.

Possible sponsoring organizations include Equal Justice Works, Skadden Foundation, and Justice Catalyst. Many law schools also offer post-graduate bridge programs or fellowships for new lawyers seeking a public-interest legal career. Candidates should review eligibility criteria of the sponsoring organizations before submitting an application to MCEA. MCEA cannot guarantee a successful fellowship application.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Excellent writing and analytic skills

· Commitment to public interest environmental advocacy and environmental justice

· Commitment to creating a diverse, inclusive workplace and culture that values differences

· J.D. from an accredited institution expected before September 2027

How to Apply:

By June 12, 2026, please submit via email to hr@mncenter.org:

· Cover letter including ideas for a fellowship proposal

· Résumé

· Law school transcript (unofficial is fine)

· Candidates selected for an interview may be asked to provide a writing sample and professional references

MCEA is an equal opportunity employer and committed to ensure equal employment practices to all employees and applicants for employment regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, physical or mental disability, medical condition, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other factor that is not related to the position.
