Maryland Environmental Service is hiring a full-time Environmental Dredging Technician/Safety Officer or Senior Environmental Dredging Technician/Safety Officer for the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration Project in Maryland. Responsibilities include site safety management, training staff, and administrative duties. Job Description:

Maryland Environmental Service (MES) has an immediate opening for a full-time Environmental Dredging Technician / Safety Officer (EDT/SO) or Senior Environmental Dredging Technician / Safety Officer (SEDT/SO) at the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island on the Chesapeake Bay near Tilghman Island, Maryland.

Primary responsibilities: This position will serve as the SITE SAFETY OFFICER, responsible for learning all site safety policies and procedures, monitoring adherence to these standards, training staff on safety-related topics, conducting scheduled safety briefings, inspecting the facility for all safety-related compliance issues, tracking all of these activities, and reporting all activities to management. This person will act as a liaison between the site and headquarters safety teams. Position will require serving as crew or vessel operator as needed; training is provided. In addition to these duties, this individual will be assigned administrative and management functions. The SEDT/SO position may be a supervisory position responsible for direct oversight of other employees. Candidates must be adaptable and willing to learn new skills and tasks. Computer literacy is required. Experience with spreadsheets, word processing and database management is preferred. Position may occasionally require evening and weekend work.

Estimated Pay Range:

EDT $43,909.83 - $48,000

SEDT $48,301.85 - $53,000

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from a standard high school or GED plus two years of experience in operations monitoring or environmental inspection. The SEDT minimum qualifications include graduation from a standard high school or GED plus three years of experience in operations monitoring or environmental inspection. Both classifications require a driver’s license with less than 5 points and the ability to lift 50 pounds.

NOTE: Applicants may substitute additional education from an accredited junior college or university for required experience at the rate of 30 undergraduate credit hours for each year of required experience. A successful candidate must also be able to obtain and carry a DOT physical card while employed at MES.

The preferred candidate will have practical experience, training, and certifications in workplace safety as well as experience in operating motor vessels.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. MES does not participate in programs which require sponsorship for work visas.
