Job Description

As an Environmental Data Scientist, you will take on a vital role in advancing our understanding of environmental phenomena, with a focus on satellite data and its applications. Your key responsibilities will include:

Joining the National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information (NESDIS) team to develop and implement innovative processes and leadership initiatives for projects centered around environmental data and products. You will prioritize tasks, outline project scopes and funding needs, and oversee the effective application and testing of scientific applications created by NESDIS teams.Engaging in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to address both strategic and technical aspects of managed services. You will lead evaluations of experimental and operational environmental products as they progress through their lifecycle, providing expert consultation to scientists and officials regarding software development and operational transitions.Delivering accurate geophysical information related to the ocean, atmosphere, and land, which supports a variety of crucial mission objectives. You will gather feedback on product quality and helm detailed planning sessions for future projects. Additionally, you will analyze and propose updates to satellite and data policies to ensure alignment with both current and future enterprise architectures.NOTE: These responsibilities are defined at the full performance level of the ZP-4; the ZP-3 is a developmental position leading to this level.
