Job Description

Clean Harbors is offering an Environmental Chemistry Internship in Collinsville, IL, for students passionate about environmental impact. Interns will handle chemical waste, assist with lab packs and hazardous waste collections, and shadow professionals. The role emphasizes safety, compliance, and includes opportunities for professional growth. Candidates should be pursuing a relevant degree and possess a valid driver's license. The internship runs in the Summer of 2025.
Join our Chemist internship program designed for students dedicated to making a positive environmental impact. In this role, you will engage in essential tasks related to handling, segregating, packing, and inspecting chemical waste. You'll work in various environments, both indoors and outdoors, including plants, laboratories, and customer sites, assisting with lab packs, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab relocations. As part of this internship, you will also have the chance to shadow professionals across different roles within our Company.

Your key responsibilities will include:
• Prioritizing Health and Safety by maintaining compliance with safe work practices, policies, and procedures
• Preparing computer-generated packing lists, labels, and manifests
• Inspecting drums for compliance with labeling regulations
• Collecting, segregating, and properly packaging waste chemicals for disposal to ensure efficiency and compliance
• Executing jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies
• Conducting projects/jobs in compliance with site-specific Federal, State, and local regulations and health and safety plans
• Sampling and profiling new waste streams or any waste requiring analytical testing
• Shadowing various roles within the organization to gain insights into our business
• Adhering to all federal, state/provincial, and local compliance regulations and rules
• Observing all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines
• Participating in networking events throughout the internship program
• Completing a final project presentation
• Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements to Work with Clean Harbors:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in a relevant discipline (Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences, etc.) and in your Junior or Senior year
• Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation
• Successful completion of a background check, drug test, and physical, as required for the position
