Summary of the Role

The Energy Policy Lead is a subject-matter expert in power systems and electricity markets, with a strong focus on the UK, key Member States (and where needed, Brussels). The role supports the development of clear, evidence-based policy positions to enable strong engagement with key power market stakeholders.

Working closely with the Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs for EMEA, the role also supports broader cross-functional business stakeholders in developing and advocating on energy market issues directly relevant to expansion.

The candidate will support the Public Policy & Government Affairs function to engage with policymakers, politicians, regulators, transmission and distribution system operators (TSOs and DSOs), grid operators, and other participants across the power market ecosystem to help shape outcomes that enable reliable, affordable, and timely power access for data center operations.

Key Responsibilities
• Support the Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs for EMEA in developing and advocating energy and power market policy positions.
• Partner with cross-functional business stakeholders, particularly the Energy team, to align policy positions with commercial, operational, and sustainability objectives.
• Develop and articulate policy positions related to power systems, grid infrastructure, and electricity markets.
• Support advocacy on behalf of data center interests to policymakers, regulators, and political stakeholders at supranational, national and regional levels.
• Engage with regulators, policymakers, transmission and distribution system operators (TSOs and DSOs), grid operators, and other power market participants to influence policy and regulatory outcomes.
• Monitor, analyse, and interpret developments in UK, European, and other relevant EMEA power markets.
• Engage with Trade Associations to ensure their timely output of appropriate policy briefings and content
• Produce high-quality written outputs, including policy briefings, consultation responses, and stakeholder communications.
• Prepare Equinix specific materials where necessary.

Essential Criteria
• A strong understanding of interconnection frameworks, rate-making principles, tariff structures, wholesale power markets and both the utility and regulatory landscape in the UK and major EU Member State national markets for data centres.
• Excellent analytical capability with demonstrated policy development and policy drafting skills.
• Experience of relevant regulatory policy within a DSO/TSO, NRA/regulator, think tank or other relevant body.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with drive and focus to work highly collaboratively in matrixed environments across teams.

Desirable Criteria
• Experience of working with and influencing the outputs of Trade Associations
• French, German and/or Spanish language skills.
• Experience working in or with the data center industry.
