Energy Control Room Operator

Uplight is hiring an Energy Control Room Operator in Lexington, VA, to manage and monitor distributed energy resources. This 24/7 role involves troubleshooting, communication with market entities, and adherence to market rules. Candidates should have experience in shift-based operations, preferably in energy. The position requires strong multitasking abilities and offers training for certifications. The role involves working 12-hour shifts with some overnight travel for training.

We are seeking an Energy Control Room Operator to join our team and help us achieve our ambitious goals for our business and the planet. What you get to do: As an Energy Control Room Operator, you will be expected to operate, monitor, and control distributed energy resources in accordance with applicable market rules to insure continuous operation and market procedure compliance under the direction and review of the Manager of Market Operations. You will remotely operate and supervise distributed battery energy storage, combined heat and power, photovoltaic, and demand response distributed energy resources as well as manage the interactions with upstream wholesale markets and balancing authorities. This is a 24/7/365 operations role requiring strong situational awareness, disciplined communication, and the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities in a high-stakes environment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting faults indicated by automatically generated alarms as well as incidents reported via the operations hotline, verbally and electronically communicating with customer and market entities, and generally applying and adhering to currently posted operating procedures and applicable market rules and reliability directives. Other duties include but are not limited to keeping facility and shift logs, reporting both planned and unplanned outages, and performing necessary housekeeping duties as assigned. What you bring to Uplight: High school diploma or equivalent Applicant must have experience in a shift-based operations role, preferably in the energy sector The company will provide full support, including training resources and guidance, to help you successfully achieve certification for the role within 6 months of hire. Certifications include: PJM Generation Operator Certification, ISO New England Supply Resource Operator Certification, and CAISO Scheduling Coordinator Certification.Strong ability to prioritize multiple tasks during high-pressure, time-sensitive situationsAbility to monitor and interpret detailed system displays for extended periods Some overnight travel is required to attend periodic training sessions and testing Control Room Operators work in 12-hour shifts and open to day and night in a 24/7/365 rotation with three to four days off in a row and opportunities for overtime. Extensive computer and handheld telephone use are required as well as the ability to read and react to large, detailed computer displays. Operators must be able to speak clearly in and understand spoken and written English on the phone and on computer displays.
