JMJ PHILLIP is seeking a Director of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) in Los Angeles, CA. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Health, Safety, Security andEnvironmental (HSSE) to join our client's leadership team. This role is a critical part of the succession strategy and will work closely with senior leadership to ensure smooth transition of responsibilities. The Director will oversee HSSE initiatives that align with organizational values, regulatory requirements, and business objectives while fostering a culture of safety, sustainability, and compliance.
Position Responsibilities Health & Safety Leadership
Lead and execute company-wide health and safety initiatives that reduce incidents and promote a culture of safety.
Oversee injury prevention strategies, incident investigations, and corrective action planning.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
Lead safety audits, inspections, and training programs to ensure safe work practices are consistently implemented.
Security Management
Collaborate with security leadership to support execution of security plans and compliance with federal regulations.
Oversee third-party security vendor performance and ensure operational alignment with safety and security protocols.
Environmental Stewardship
Manage environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste, emissions reduction, and sustainability initiatives.
Drive zero-emissions strategies, including the adoption of new equipment and infrastructure.
Provide technical expertise on environmental and regulatory matters.
Strategic Leadership
Partner with executive leadership to integrate HSSE considerations into business operations.
Lead, mentor, and develop HSSE teams to achieve operational excellence.
Foster collaboration across departments to ensure safety and environmental priorities are embedded in decision-making.
Prerequisites Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (Master’s preferred).
10+ years of management experience in logistics, maritime, or related heavy industry environments.
Minimum 5 years in senior HSSE leadership roles.
In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, USCG, and state/local regulations.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to influence, collaborate, and lead in fast-paced, complex environments.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required) Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
Other relevant HSSE or environmental certifications
