ABOUT THE POSITION
Director of Environmental Services | Maine
We are seeking a dynamic Director of Environmental Services to lead and develop our Maine environmental practice across all markets. VHB’s Maine team is growing with market connections positioning us for some of the most exciting projects in the state. This role involves overseeing a talented team of scientists and engineers through supporting career advancement, training, and mentoring. As a senior leader, this role will also coordinate and oversee a variety of planning and engineering projects in key markets such as energy, transportation agencies, and real estate. This role will work closely with VHB partners in our transportation and land engineering groups as well as with environmental specialists focused on natural science, environmental planning, remediation, water resources, cultural resources, sustainability, air quality, and noise.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide oversight, direction, management, mentoring, and ongoing open communication to technical and engineering staff regarding all facets of environmental practice.
• Maintain ongoing communication with clients and corporate to communicate project status, changes in conditions, or other key points of information.
• Establish and track project milestones as well as quarterly business goals.
• Manage in-house technical services staff to identify opportunities to reduce costs through value engineering and best methods.
• Recruit and develop staff to support practice growth.
Skills & Abilities:
• Superior ability in collaborative problem-solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.
• Full knowledge and understanding of all aspects of contract specifications, terms, and conditions.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Team-oriented with a strong capability to motivate others.
• Highly motivated self-starter.
Requirements:
• 10+ years of professional experience in environmental science/engineering consulting.
• Demonstrated success at building a practice and managing staff.
• BS degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• Professional registration or licensure in a technical discipline is desired.
