About the Role

If you are passionate about enhancing the environmental performance of infrastructure projects, we want to hear from you! We are currently looking for a seasoned Director of Environmental Impact Assessment to become part of our dedicated Environment & Sustainability team of over 650 staff across the UK and Ireland. Our positions are flexible regarding location, and we welcome candidates from various backgrounds seeking either part-time or full-time opportunities.

As the Director, you will lead multidisciplinary environmental efforts on large-scale development projects that are crucial for the UK’s net zero objectives, including:
• Energy generation projects, including carbon capture, hydrogen, and renewable sources (solar and wind)
• Energy distribution and transmission initiatives (including international connectors)
• Strategic national and regional rail projects
• Highway improvements and greenway plans
• Regeneration efforts, including portside developments
• Projects across ecommerce, minerals and waste, water, defense, aviation, commercial, residential, and industrial sectors

You will oversee environmental inputs throughout all project life stages, from strategy and site identification to detailed design and operational phases. This role also presents opportunities to navigate multiple consenting regimes (DCO, TCPA, TWA, hybrid Bill, etc.) and play a vital part in securing new commissions and managing client relationships.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:
• Expertise: Lead and direct multidisciplinary environmental inputs across various projects, assisting our clients in obtaining development consents.
• Collaboration: Work alongside integrated design teams to recognize environmental constraints, mitigate impacts, and develop beneficial solutions.
• Creation: Support business growth through fee and technical proposal development while engaging with clients for relationship management.
• Inspiration: Contribute to staff development and mentoring.
• Advocacy: Promote AECOM’s environmental services to both internal and external audiences.

Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a strong background in leading multidisciplinary environmental efforts within infrastructure projects. Requirements include:
• Experience in consultancy leadership
• Thorough knowledge of EIA processes and environmental assessment methodologies
• Understanding of relevant consenting and licensing regimes
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to collaborate within established teams while leading from specialist areas
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with strong technical reviewing capabilities
• Project management competencies including programming and budget oversight
• A relevant degree in an environmental discipline (Masters preferred) along with a suitable professional affiliation
• Willingness to travel as needed

Preferred Qualifications:
• Chartered Environmentalist status
• Interest in line management and staff mentoring
• Experience with DCO and/or TWAO consenting regimes
