Volkert, Inc. is seeking a Designer – Mechanical for their Ruston, LA location. The role involves interpreting design requirements, creating CAD 3D models for mechanical and piping systems, reviewing vendor drawings, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Candidates should have over 10 years of drafting experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry, along with strong communication skills and proficiency in AutoCAD. We are currently searching for an experienced Designer – Mechanical to support our West Gulf Region located in Ruston, LA.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Interpret and analyze general design requirements provided by engineers, including piping and instrumentation diagrams, piping specifications, stress analysis recommendations, and equipment requirements.
• Use theoretical and practical design knowledge of the oil and gas industry to design CAD 3D models for mechanical equipment and piping systems.
• Review vendor equipment drawing packages and provide comments.
• Obtain accurate field data using 3D scanning or manual measurement methods.
• Manipulate point cloud data to generate as-built 3D models.
• Produce quality, constructible drawing packages per the project scope, including site plans, location plans, piping plans, sections and details, piping isometrics, pipe support details and tie-in details, where applicable.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, client and company design and drafting standards, and industry-accepted guidelines and best practices.
• Perform quality control checks of the work of other designers and drafters.
• Mentor and advise less-experienced designers and drafters.
• Plan and supervise work for designers and other drafting personnel.
• Communicate and work closely with other disciplines with minimal supervision.
What You Need To Have
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two-year drafting, design, or industry-related technical degree from an accredited university or trade school preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in drafting, 3D modeling and piping design required.
• 5+ years of experience in oil and gas industry preferred.
• Strong communication and organization skills.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, CADWorx Plant and ISOGEN.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
• Valid driver’s license.
• A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).
