THE SANITATION DISTRICTS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTYinvites applications for the position of: COMPOST UTILITY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I, IIKettleman City, CAThe Sanitation Districts are a non-civil services public agency with over 1,700 employees. Tulare Lake Compost (TLC) is a state-of-the-art, 175-acre facility located near Kettleman City in Kings County, California. At the facility, an eco-friendly process is used to combine agricultural green wastes from the Central Valley with biosolids from Los Angeles County to create an optimal mixture for composting. The facility currently has the capacity to transform up to 100,000 wet tons per year (wtpy) of anaerobically digested and dewatered biosolids into valuable, nutrient rich, Class A Exceptional Quality compost. TLC is owned and operated by the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County as part of their diversified biosolids management program. NOTE: Tulare Lake Compost is a Districts facility near Kettleman City, California. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To operate equipment in support of the daily operations and maintenance of a composting facility.JOB SUMMARY: The major job duties are listed below. Inspect equipment prior to use and reporting any repair or maintenance needsFuel vehicles and equipment Keep basic records of tasks performed using computerized and manual recordkeeping systems Operate utility equipment and using hand tools to perform composting activities, custodial and other processing dutiesUse equipment to push, lift, pile, convey, place, mix, grind, screen and spread composting materials as well as finished compostAssist with building heaps in various phasesAssist in manually anchoring and sealing the compost cover system
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Applicants must possess all of the following: A valid California Class C driver license for positions performing on-the-job-driving. For Compost Utility Equipment Operator I: One (1) year of progressively responsible experience operating a variety of utility equipment For Compost Utility Equipment Operator II: One (1) year as a Compost Utility Equipment Operator I for the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County or equivalentDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Prior experience operating loaders, skid-steers, dump trucks, or similar utility equipment is highly desirable
