Job Description
The Lancashire Wildlife Trust is hiring a Communications Officer for the Peatlands Programme in Preston, UK. This role involves marketing and communications to promote peatland restoration and conservation efforts. Responsibilities include managing press releases, media inquiries, and online content. The position requires a passion for nature conservation and strong communication skills. This is a full-time, permanent in-person role with a salary of £26,210.77 per year.
This is a fantastic opportunity to combine your passion for marketing and communications with your love for the outdoors and nature conservation.
The Peatlands Programme is dedicated to restoring, caring for and promoting our precious peatlands. Large areas of Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside would once have been covered by wonderful peat bogs, but sadly nearly all of these are now damaged or degraded. Healthy peatlands are vital carbon stores, helping us to fight the climate emergency, along with providing habitats for an amazing array of rare and specialised wildlife. However, as soon as our peatlands are damaged or degraded in any way they release huge amounts of carbon into the atmosphere, and vital wildlife habitats are lost. Restoring our peatlands and telling their story is vital.
This is an exciting indoors/outdoors, relationship-building role, dealing with volunteers, partners and local businesses to promote the work on the peatlands. It might get muddy, but you will be part of a team that really cares about these rare habitats.
The Communications Officer will be responsible for delivering communications support to the Peatlands Project, showcasing its work externally and to partner organisations. The Officer will promote the work to a wide audience through communications activities, PR, events and the development of an online profile, and will work with funders and partners to ensure each piece of communication is on message.
To be successful in this role you will have experience writing and coordinating press releases, dealing with media enquiries and managing website content, and you will have a commitment and enthusiasm nature conservation.
