Job Description

Climate Emergency UK is hiring a Communications & Engagement Coordinator to enhance residents' use of Action Scorecards for local climate action. The role involves social media outreach, supporting volunteers, and conducting training sessions. Ideal candidates are proactive in building community relationships and have social media experience. The position is part-time (16 hours/week) for 6 months, starting mid-May 2025, and requires occasional travel to a central UK city.
Climate Emergency UK is looking for a Communications and Engagement Coordinator to skill up
residents and campaign groups on how to use the Action Scorecards for council climate action,
and co-lead on our social media outreach about the 2025 Action Scorecards. This role is crucial
in empowering residents to use the Council Climate Action Scorecards and drive climate action
at the local level.

About the role

Climate Emergency UK (CE UK) is launching the second Council Climate Action Scorecards in June 2025. We
are looking for someone to support our social media and other communication channels and work
with us to deliver effective and UK-wide outreach on how residents can use the Action
Scorecards for change.

We have a small team of Scorecard Ambassador volunteers that you support and motivate
to deliver ‘How to Use the Scorecards’ sessions in their local areas, both online and
in-person. You will also support and work with media volunteers.

We’re looking for someone who is proactive and confident in building relationships with
volunteers and community groups, and has some experience of using social media to promote
events and engage audiences. We want someone who has an understanding of the complexity of
local government, and is passionate about the power of residents to bring about change.
Councils may not be the sexiest topic, but with up to a third of emission reductions within the
influence of local authorities, there is a real chance to make a significant difference in
reducing carbon emissions and improving our communities.

Hours: 16 hours a week
Start date: mid-May 2025
Contract: 6 months fixed term
Benefits: Holiday allowance 23 days plus bank holidays (pro rata), 3% pension contributions

The job is remote working, with the successful candidate living in the UK. The successful
candidate will be required to travel to a central UK city every 2-3 months for team work days
(likely London, Brighton or Lancaster). Travel and accommodation expenses covered.
