About the position
The City Forester is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and managing the City-wide urban forestry maintenance program. This role involves overseeing the health and continuity of community trees, coordinating interdepartmental programs, and providing education and guidance to staff and the public. The City Forester acts as a liaison between various stakeholders and ensures compliance with regulations related to urban forestry.
Responsibilities
• Plans, reviews, and evaluates public projects involving trees and foliage; facilitates communication between City staff, contractors, and citizens.

• Supervises the planting, cultivation, and maintenance of trees to ensure their health along city streets and parks.

• Coordinates interdepartmental programs and drafts city-wide specifications for forestry care and maintenance.

• Provides instruction and guidance for workers maintaining the forests and trees within the City.

• Monitors permitting for forestry activities and enforces regulations against illegal dumping.
,
• Manages contract compliance for vendors working on forestry projects and processes tree removal permits.

• Performs any other work as needed or assigned.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, forestry, arboriculture, or horticulture.

• Four years of experience in urban forestry or arboriculture, including planting and maintenance of trees.

• Two years of supervisory or project management experience.

• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
,
• Must obtain ISA Arborist Certification within one year of appointment.
Nice-to-haves
• Knowledge of Forest Practice Guidelines and Best Management Practices.

• Proficient with Arc View and GIS.

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relevant to forestry operations.
