Job Description
The NJ Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a Green Acres Intern to assist the Park Development Team in promoting accessible recreation facilities in New Jersey. The internship is fully in-person, requiring up to 35 hours per week, with an hourly rate of $18-$23 based on education level. Candidates should have strong communication skills and a background in Environmental Policy or related fields. The position starts on June 16, 2025.

Program: Community Investment & Economic Revitalization - Green Acres
Program Description: The Green Acres Program, established in 1961, works in partnership with others to create a network of protected open spaces across New Jersey, preserving its natural, historic, and recreational resources for public enjoyment. It has successfully protected over 681,000 acres of land and supported numerous park development projects, contributing to the state's total of over 1.6 million acres of preserved open space.
Project Description: Assist Park Development Team in identifying ways to further promote fully accessible recreation facilities in NJ. Duties for the position will include: researching specific standards for fully accessible recreational facilities, work with IT personnel to add information to the Green Acres website promoting accessibility, coordinate training on fully accessible recreational facilities for Green Acres Park Development Team staff, and provide support for other project-related or special initiatives that promote recreation and conservation through land acquisition and park development.
Preferred Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work independently.
Preferred Area of Study: Environmental Policy, Institutions, and Behavior, Recreation, or other majors if applicant is interested in New Jersey's recreation and conservation efforts.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
