Auto Mechanic II

The City of North Miami Beach is seeking an Auto Mechanic II to lead in diagnosing and repairing city equipment, vehicles, and heavy machinery. Responsibilities include supervising other mechanics, performing repairs, operating tools, and maintaining records. The position requires physical activity and knowledge of automotive tools and machinery. Applicants must meet specific requirements and may undergo a selection process. This is a full-time on-site position.
JOB


Under limited supervision, is responsible for acting as a lead mechanic in diagnosing and troubleshooting problems with all City equipment, machinery and vehicles and performing responsible skilled work on all types of heavy duty construction and maintenance equipment. Repairs and services a wide variety of medium and heavy gasoline and diesel driven machinery and hydraulic equipment. Operates trade related equipment and tools; inspects work done by subordinates. Assigns mechanics to various repair and maintenance duties. Reports to the Fleet Management Manager. ADA REQUIREMENTS: Individual’s sensory modalities (vision and hearing) and physical capabilities (ambulation, strength, coordination, dexterity, range of motion) must be sufficient to perform the Essential Functions of the position.

Diagnoses defects, handles repairs and performs minor and major work on a wide variety of light and heavy automotive equipment and machinery within the City’s fleet.Operates various types of equipment, machinery, instruments and specialized tools necessary to perform mechanic duties.Inspects and troubleshoots problems and adjusts, replace and/or make necessary recommendations.Performs duties of Fleet Management Manager in his/her absence.Inspects work being done or completed by other subordinates and may peer review to certify that work has been completed to satisfaction.Prepares vehicle shop repair records.Distributes work orders.Orders parts.Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals to include City employees, vendors and suppliers.Supervises Automotive Mechanic IOther duties as required.

Must possess working knowledge of various tools, machinery and equipment used to perform duties as required.Must possess basic knowledge of word processing, data base and other computer skills.Work involves physical activity including, but not limited to, walking, lifting, climbing, crawling, carrying, bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling sometimes in very confined spaces.
