Job Description

Nanyang Technological University seeks an Associate Professor of Japanese Environmental History to conduct research, mentor students, and contribute to course development. Candidates should have a PhD, a strong publication record, and experience in teaching and administration. The position is full-time and based in Singapore, requiring collaboration within the History program and the School of Humanities.
The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research on environmental histories of Japan. The period of specialization is open. The successful applicant will join a vibrant team of historians and contribute to the History program’s existing strengths in interdisciplinary and Asian history.

The History Programme is one of the six programs in the School of Humanities, together with English, Linguistics, Philosophy, Chinese and Art History. The School of Humanities is a diverse and dynamic hub of research and education supported by a world-class faculty. The History program is a vibrant department with key areas of expertise in Asian history and interdisciplinary approaches to history.
- Develop a robust, world-class research agenda and maintain a strong publication record;
- Secure research funding from competitive grants;
- Mentor and supervise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers;
- Contribute to course development at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and deliver engaging and effective teaching;
- Undertake administrative and leadership roles at the department and institution level;
- And mentor junior faculty members.

Requirements:

- A PhD in history or in a related field.
- Demonstrated excellence in research, evidenced by a strong publication record in reputable journals and books with reputable publishers.
- Recognition in the research community, such as invited talks, awards, or memberships in professional societies.
- A good track record of supervising students, research staff, and/or postdocs.
- Demonstrated capacity to contribute to curriculum development and deliver excellent teaching.
- Experience in administrative, leadership and service roles.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
