Job Description

Earthjustice is seeking an Associate Attorney for Climate Advocacy in Los Angeles, CA. This role involves preventing harmful climate infrastructure and promoting regulatory changes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The position is designed for early-career attorneys, providing mentorship and opportunities for skill development in public interest litigation. Key responsibilities include legal research, drafting documents, and engaging with federal agencies. A Juris Doctor degree and 2-6 years of legal experience are required.
Earthjustice is inviting passionate individuals to apply for the role of Associate Attorney on our National Climate, Fossil Fuel Infrastructure team. As an integral member of our devoted group of attorneys, you will focus on preventing climate-damaging infrastructure projects and promoting regulatory changes that curb greenhouse gas emissions. The Associate Attorney role is tailored for individuals in the early stages of their legal careers, providing a three-year opportunity with the potential for extension. You will develop your skills under the mentorship of experienced attorneys while gradually taking on more responsibility in your legal cases. This position prepares you for a rewarding career in public interest litigation.

Your primary focus will be on our federal energy regulatory practice, engaging in advocacy and litigation involving federal agencies such as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Department of Energy, and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Key ResponsibilitiesConduct thorough legal and factual research to support litigation efforts.Analyze administrative records and assess technical documents.Draft motions, briefs, and other essential legal documents.Engage in proceedings before federal courts and agencies.Build relationships with clients, experts, and coalition partners.Collaborate with colleagues to integrate media and legislative advocacy into legal strategies.Supervise and mentor law students who serve as interns or clerks.QualificationsJuris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.2-6 years of legal experience; must be admitted or eligible for bar admission in your state.Outstanding research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.Strong work ethic, sound judgment, initiative, and creativity.A commitment to fighting for the right of all individuals to a healthy environment.Ability to work independently and thrive in a collaborative team environment.Dedication to serving the public interest with a passion for Earthjustice's mission.Awareness and sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.Desire to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.High emotional intelligence and exceptional interpersonal skills.We offer a mission-driven and employee-focused work environment, accompanied by a competitive salary and benefits package.
