Job Description

Maine's Public Universities seeks an Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering for a tenure track position in Orono, ME. Candidates must hold B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in relevant fields and engage in teaching and research. Responsibilities include curriculum enhancement, establishing a funded research program, and training graduate students. The role is split 50% teaching and 50% research, with a strong encouragement to obtain professional engineer licensure before promotion.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maine invites applications for a tenure track position in environmental engineering. To be eligible, applicants must hold B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline specializing in environmental engineering by the hire date.

Preferred areas of expertise include water chemistry, remediation of emerging pollutants (such as PFAS), advanced water treatment, pollutant fate and transport, and environmental systems or water quality modeling.

Candidates will engage in instruction of fundamental and applied environmental engineering courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and enhance the Department's existing curriculum; establish and maintain a nationally competitive, externally funded research program; author high-quality peer-reviewed publications; train M.S. and Ph.D. students; and actively engage in service to the profession, university, and state.

This position is 50% teaching and 50% research. The successful candidate will be strongly encouraged to obtain licensure as a professional engineer (PE) before promotion to associate professor.

Qualifications

• Experience with environmental engineering research and a record of publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
