Assistant Environmental Technician

YTL UK is hiring an Assistant Environmental Technician in Wimborne Minster, UK. The role involves supporting environmental and water quality monitoring, conducting fieldwork, and maintaining equipment. This is an exciting opportunity to work as a part of a team of technicians to support the delivery of Wessex Water's environmental investigations by assisting with the design and undertaking of environmental and water quality monitoring and the maintenance of equipment.

The expectation is for this role to be based either at our Claverton office in Bath or our Corfe Mullen office in Dorset and involves travel across our region to undertake in-field monitoring.

This is a two-year fixed-term contract role.

What you'll do

You will:
• assist with the design and delivery of environmental monitoring for the company's environmental investigations
• undertake in-field monitoring such as water quality sampling, river flow and groundwater level monitoring, and ecological monitoring
• assist with sourcing, maintaining and deploying monitoring equipment
• perform quality assurance and the analysis of data report results to other team members
• help to communicate complex science and monitoring approaches to multiple audiences
• obtain permission for access to private land.

The post holder will also develop their knowledge of water quality monitoring techniques and relevant legislation to support environmental investigations.

It would be desirable for you to have:
• practical experience in water quality monitoring or a similar subject following appropriate health and safety (training can be provided)
• experience operating and maintaining scientific equipment
• knowledge of the tools available for assessing and interpreting water quality and environmental data
• experience in data analysis and basic statistics using IT.
