Job Description

Dezeen Limited is seeking a sustainability architect to join its London team. The role involves guiding sustainable design solutions across projects, supporting from inception to procurement, and advocating for sustainable practices. Candidates should have architectural experience and expertise in sustainable design. The position includes remote support for projects in Hong Kong and Shanghai, making it suitable for those looking to focus on sustainability in architecture.
Make is seeking a sustainability architect to join its team in London.

Make is a studio of highly creative and talented architects and designers who have acquired considerable professional experience designing advanced, complex and iconic buildings. We’re an equal opportunities employer committed to creating an open and egalitarian working environment.

Make is looking for a multidisciplinary individual with a background as an architect to join our sustainability team. You will guide the integration of sustainable design solutions across all projects, supporting projects from their inception through to procurement. Additionally, you may flex onto live projects to support the delivery of key innovation, circularity and sustainability initiatives as an architect, so your experience of design and delivery of projects is key.

Your role is to be an advocate and expert in all matters related to sustainable design within Make. You will work on projects in our London studio while remotely supporting projects in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

You will work alongside a sustainable design coordinator and a sustainability lead, as well as project teams.

This role would suit a practicing architect who is looking to move into a sustainability-focused role.
Responsibilities:
• Work with project teams to develop integrated building designs that embrace resource-efficient and low-carbon solutions, principles of circular materiality, ecological footprints and sustainable development goals.
• Provide design-focused research, consultancy and guidance on sustainable building and master planning strategies, sustainable planning, policy and practices, first-principle passive design, benchmarking, and environmental design.
• Work on the delivery of project-specific zero-carbon roadmaps, decarbonisation strategies, and passive design responses.
• Guide the whole-life carbon impact of our decision-making through embodied carbon considerations.
• Work with our directors and internal stakeholder group (Make Neutral) to evolve and develop Make’s strategic practice approach to the climate emergency.
• Support design teams in the use of environmental simulation tools, and devise methodologies for analysis and visualisation of specific environmental design problems.
Essential

Skills and Experience:
• Experience as an architect across a range of RIBA work stages.
• Experience in sustainable design, environmental engineering and passive design.
• Ability to lead, communicate and influence architectural decision-making through early design stages.
• Relevant experience in sustainable design and architecture, and/or an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in a related field.
• Broad knowledge of sustainable design themes, as well as current and developing international sustainability policy frameworks.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously across several different international regions.
Desirable

Skills and Experience:
• Knowledge of environmental engineering themes and workings of current climate change-related challenges in the construction industry.
• Registered architect (ARB/RIBA).
• Accredited professional in WELL, BREEAM, LEED or other sustainability rating system.
• Experience with building simulation tools such as Grasshopper Plug-ins (Ladybug, Honeybee, etc).
• Experience with embodied carbon tools such as One Click LCA.
• Proficient using Revit.
• Ability to produce consistent work with excellent graphic, written and verbal presentation skills.
• Experience working in a design-led architectural practice with a similar profile to Make.
