<br><br>Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department is seeking an
environmental professional to support the water quality monitoring unit
in work related to permit compliance, facility operation, and
environmental monitoring. The successful candidate will join an
experienced team of professionals who sample surface waters, wastewater,
and well water throughout the year and throughout eastern Pima County.
The position is mostly field-based with many opportunities to learn
environmental regulations governing the operation of wastewater
reclamation facilities.

Duties/Responsibilities

(Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will
be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.)<br><br>Inspects EPA regulated and/or significant-discharge industrial
wastewater pre-treatment facilities and other industrial facilities to
evaluate physical/chemical treatment processes, treatment records,
hazardous wastes manifests, and related pre-treatment functions for
compliance with EPA standards;<br><br>Conducts pre-permit inspection of businesses/industries to determine
category of discharge and appropriate sampling methods;<br><br>Performs manual and automatic wastewater sample collection from
industrial discharges,<br><br>Pima County treatment plants, surface water runoff, rivers, and
collection systems;<br><br>Analyzes wastewater laboratory and self-monitoring reports for
violations;<br><br>Documents violations of discharge requirements for use by the County
Attorney;<br><br>Documents chain-of-custody on samples as evidence of legal custody;<br><br>Enters confined spaces and other discharge access points to supervise
installation, inspection, adjustment or service sampling equipment;<br><br>Writes concise reports-for-record detailing inspection results for use
in potential civil and criminal enforcement actions;<br><br>Drafts enforcement action documents such as notice of violation, show
cause, intent to suspend, and suspensions;<br><br>Prepares legal documentation of all transactions with wastewater
dischargers;<br><br>Answers inquiries and provides information to the public regarding
industrial wastewater discharge control requirements for EPA regulated
and significant discharge businesses;<br><br>Participates in the scheduling of sampling and inspection activities;<br><br>Maintains supply levels, controls vehicle and equipment status and
condition;<br><br>Chemically stabilizes samples to ensure integrity for analysis;<br><br>Analyzes field samples;<br><br>Responds to chemical spills and other wastewater conveyance system
problems to perform sample analysis and problem resolution;<br><br>Trains Industrial Wastewater Inspector Trainees in procedures and
techniques;<br><br>Draft industrial wastewater discharge permits;<br><br>Uses sampling, monitoring, and testing equipment, periodically
inspecting, cleaning, calibrating, and performing minor repairing of
this equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

(1) An associates degree from an accredited college or university with
a major in environmental science/technology, hydrology, hydro-geology,
engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, watershed/wildlife management,
ecology, mathematics, public administration, public health or a closely
related field as defined by the Appointing Authority at the time of
recruitment.

<br>(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or
university may be substituted.)

(2) Two years of experience in a laboratory setting collecting,
testing and analyzing water or wastewater samples or in
operating/maintaining industrial wastewater treatment systems.

(3) One year of experience with Pima County as an Operations and
Maintenance Technician or as a Utility Maintenance Worker I.
