TEACH, LEARN AND GROW AS A 4-H ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR

Perhaps a cubicle is just not your work style? Or you want to try out teaching but not in a traditional classroom setting? We hire and train a few dozen seasonal environmental educators (EE) every year to inspire young minds in grades K-12 at our diverse and unique 4-H facilities from the north Georgia mountains to the coast. Our facilities include Wahsega 4-H Center, Fortson 4-H Center, Rock Eagle 4-H Center, Burton 4-H Center, Georgia 4-H at Camp Jekyll, and 4-H Tidelands Nature Center.

WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION?

Georgia 4-H is one of the nation’s largest providers of residential environmental education, hosting about 40,000 participants during each school year statewide. Our research-based curriculum in life sciences, natural history, ecology and team building provides hands-on science learning in the context of the real world. Since the program began in 1979, over 1.2 million students from schools and home-based groups have participated.

DETAILS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for positions available from August to May at each of our 4-H facilities. Training consists of 2-3 weeks of preparation prior to the arrival of students. It includes teaching techniques, classroom management skills, class and curriculum outlines, animal handling and high ropes course instruction (for Rock Eagle, Wahsega and Fortson). Staff members generally work Monday through Friday, but hours vary based on visiting groups and schedules. Occasional weekend work is also required.

EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

enjoy working outdoors
desire to teach students about the environment
ability to work as part of a team
