Pheasants Forever is hiring a Farm Bill Biologist I or II for wildlife habitat conservation in Lewisburg or Point Pleasant, WV. About the position

The Farm Bill Wildlife Biologist I or II positions at Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever are integral roles focused on wildlife habitat conservation in partnership with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). These positions will be based in Lewisburg, WV and Point Pleasant, WV, and will involve coordinating and implementing wildlife habitat-related conservation programs across multiple counties in southeastern and northwestern West Virginia. The selected candidates will work closely with local USDA-NRCS staff and partner agencies to promote and implement the conservation provisions of the Federal Farm Bill, with a primary emphasis on the Conservation Reserve Program and the Working Lands for Wildlife Bobwhite Program. The role will also encompass other relevant Farm Bill programs and local habitat initiatives. The biologists will be responsible for a variety of tasks including wildlife habitat planning, contract coordination, conservation plan writing, site assessments, practice certification, and program promotion. They will provide technical assistance to private landowners, government agencies, and non-government organizations, ensuring effective communication of program requirements and eligibility determinations. The positions require a proactive approach to outreach, including workshops and habitat tours, to accelerate conservation program enrollment. Additionally, the biologists will review and certify federal cost-share practices for compliance and assist local Quail Forever chapters with habitat education and outreach efforts. Candidates should possess a strong background in wildlife management, forestry, or a related field, with a Bachelor of Science degree being a minimum requirement. Experience with USDA Farm Bill programs is preferred, particularly for the Farm Bill Biologist II role, which requires at least two years of professional experience. The ideal candidates will demonstrate a balance of technical knowledge and interpersonal skills, enabling them to effectively engage with private landowners and achieve conservation objectives.

Responsibilities
• Coordinate and implement wildlife habitat-related conservation programs in partnership with USDA-NRCS.

• Provide technical assistance and guidance to private landowners and partner agencies for conservation programs.

• Complete conservation plans, job sheets, and wildlife habitat evaluation guides in cooperation with partners.

• Communicate program requirements and conduct site visits to determine eligibility for conservation programs.

• Review plans and specifications for feasibility under Farm Bill program contract rules.

• Conduct outreach activities such as workshops and habitat tours to promote conservation program enrollment.

• Provide on-site technical assistance for conservation practice implementation.

• Review and certify federal cost-share practices for compliance with program rules.

• Assist local Quail Forever chapters with habitat program education and outreach.

Requirements
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Management, Forestry, or closely related natural resources field is required.

• Proven experience working with USDA Farm Bill programs is preferred.

• At least 2 years of professional experience are preferred for a Farm Bill Biologist II.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse clientele.

• Knowledge of northern bobwhite and related species ecology.

• Knowledge of grassland, rangeland, forest, and early succession habitat management.

• Proficiency with ArcGIS, GPS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
