Job Description
The Utah Department of Wildlife Resources is hiring Wildlife Technician I for seasonal positions at Lake Powell, Bullfrog, UT, from May to September 2024, with possible extension. The role involves preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species, public education, and inspecting watercraft. Applicants must be 18+, possess a valid driver’s license, and work flexible hours, including weekends. Housing is provided at no cost. Salary ranges from $17.00 to $17.80 per hour.

Positions Available: 7–10
Housing: Provided at no cost
The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife Resources, has seasonal positions (no benefits) available at Lake Powell in Bullfrog, Utah. This appointment will last from approximately May to September 2024, with the possibility of extension. Housing is provided. Full-time positions are at a 40-hour work week. Part-time positions are also available.
Job duties
The technician will aid in protecting Utah’s waterways by implementing the Utah Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan. As a member of a containment team, the technician will prevent the spread of quagga and zebra mussels as well as other aquatic invasive species. Duties will include educating the public about aquatic invasive species and the AIS program, interviewing boaters, assessing biological risk, inspecting watercraft for aquatic invasive species, decontaminating watercraft, maintaining a clean environment and all other duties as assigned.
Job requirements and skills
Applicant must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver’s license at the time of employment. Applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule, with weekends and holidays (e.g., Memorial Day, Fourth of July, July 24, Labor Day, etc.) mandatory. Applicant must be self-motivated, honest, and able and willing to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions (rain and wind). Applicant must be able to work independently and as a contributing member of a team. Applicant should exhibit problem-solving skills, adaptability, time-management and exemplary customer service. A successful applicant will be able to work efficiently while promoting a fun working environment.
Preference may be given to applicants with an understanding of boat types and internal water systems (e.g., ballast tanks, live wells, cooling systems, etc.), or who are pursuing a degree in biology, fisheries, natural resources or criminal justice. Basic mechanical aptitude is helpful.
