The State of Louisiana is hiring a Wildlife Technician A-C for the LDWF Inland Fisheries in Monroe, LA. This role involves freshwater fish sampling, data collection, and equipment maintenance. Physical work is required, including lifting heavy objects and operating boats. The position may require overnight travel and involves assisting with research projects and facility maintenance. No prior experience is necessary, and the position is domiciled in Monroe.
About this Job LDWF Inland Fisheries, District 2 is seeking to hire a Technician A-C responsible for activities associated with freshwater sport fish field sampling and/or data collecting from field projects as assigned. This position also assists with collecting biological and environmental data using appropriate equipment including seines, plankton nets, gill and hoop nets, electro-fishing gear, and other scientific gear. This position collects fishery-dependent survey data and works to maintain Bussey Brake WMA.

Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: This Technician position functions to perform limited freshwater fish sampling and monitoring of freshwater aquatic habitat across a large geographical region in Northeast Louisiana and is domiciled in Monroe, Louisiana. General supervision is received from a Biologist Supervisor. Moderate to strenuous physical exertion is required for such activities as lifting objects over 50 pounds, and working out of boats in inclement weather.
Some overnight travel may be required. This position participates in a fisheries sampling crew. Responsibilities include conducting various fish sampling methods using multiple gear-types.
Conducts boat/equipment maintenance along with actions that support research and development projects for public water bodies. Duties also include collection of biological fisheries and aquatic data for research projects used by the Department in the formulation of management plans. This position includes operating and maintaining high pressure spray pumps, boats, winches, trailers, navigational equipment, motor vehicles and power tools.
This incumbent assists with general maintenance of buildings and grounds, including general upkeep of Bussey Brake WMA, and assists in major facility renovations, including general carpentry. May operate machinery and heavy equipment including but not limited to: tractors equipped with front-end loaders, zero-turn mowers, and ATV's. Performs minor duties involving Monroe Hatchery grounds, when directed by Hatchery staff.
Performs minor repairs to parking area, ramp, or piers. Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational Appointment, Job Appointment, Detail to Special Duty, Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees) Career Progression: This position does participate in a Career Progression Group Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
