Wildlife Conservation Specialist

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department seeks a highly skilled professional to fill the position of Wildlife Conservation Specialist. This role will play a pivotal part in fostering connections and partnerships between the department and various stakeholders, including government agencies, conservation organizations, community groups, and the general public.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Stakeholder Engagement:
• Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to engage and collaborate with key stakeholders, driving meaningful partnerships that support wildlife and fisheries conservation efforts.
• Cultivate and maintain positive relationships through active communication, ensuring seamless collaboration and mutual understanding among diverse groups.
• Public Outreach and Education:
• Design and deliver impactful public outreach programs, leveraging various mediums to raise awareness about Louisiana's rich wildlife and fisheries resources.
• Coordinate engaging events, workshops, and presentations to educate and involve the public on conservation matters, regulations, and initiatives.
• Utilize multi-channel communication strategies to disseminate information, promote departmental objectives, and foster community involvement.
• Community Relations and Partnerships:
• Serve as a liaison between the department and local communities, facilitating dialogue, seeking input, addressing concerns, and fostering collaborative solutions to wildlife and fisheries management issues.
• Organize community engagement initiatives, such as town hall meetings, public forums, and volunteer opportunities, to empower residents in conservation efforts.
• Policy Support and Advocacy:
• Advocate for wildlife and fisheries conservation priorities at local, state, and federal levels, actively participating in legislative advocacy efforts and policy discussions.
• Provide expert input and support to policy development and implementation processes, working closely with departmental leadership and external stakeholders.
• Performance Metrics and Evaluation:
• Contribute to the development of strategic plans, goals, and objectives related to stakeholder engagement, public outreach, and community relations.
• Establish metrics and benchmarks to assess the effectiveness of engagement activities and initiatives, regularly evaluating progress and making adjustments as needed.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, wildlife biology, natural resource management, communications, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• At least 5 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, community relations, or public outreach, with demonstrated success in building partnerships and mobilizing support for conservation initiatives.
• Exceptional communication skills, enabling effective conveyance of complex conservation concepts to diverse audiences through written, verbal, and visual mediums.
• Proven project management, strategic planning, and program evaluation skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Knowledge of wildlife and fisheries management principles, regulations, and policies, particularly as they pertain to the state of Louisiana.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, and other relevant communication tools.
• Demonstrated passion for wildlife conservation, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
