Job Description

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources is seeking a Wildlife Area Manager for Sussex, VA. The role involves wildlife management and infrastructure maintenance on Wildlife Management Areas, with a focus on the Pinelands work unit. Responsibilities include supervising crews, habitat management, equipment maintenance, and reporting activities. Candidates should have knowledge of wildlife habitat management principles. This is a full-time position.
Job Duties Performs wildlife management practices and infrastructure maintenance on WMAs in Region 1 with majority focus in the Pinelands work unit (Sussex and Surry counties). Emphasis is to be placed on the Big Woods and Flippo-Gentry WMAs. Assists Lands and Access manager in completing wildlife work to meet Agency program goals and objectives. When necessary, supervises a crew to manage and develop wildlife habitat, maintain or construct facilities and collect biological information. Maintains equipment and inventory of assigned equipment, prepares reports of activities, and maintains a log of work accomplishments. Guidance and direction are generally provided with objectives and timelines for completion dates. The methods for accomplishments are generally the employee's responsibility.
