Wildlife Area Manager

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources is seeking a Wildlife Area Manager for Sussex, VA. The role involves wildlife management and infrastructure maintenance on Wildlife Management Areas, with a focus on the Pinelands work unit. Responsibilities include supervising crews, habitat management, equipment maintenance, and reporting activities. Candidates should have knowledge of wildlife habitat management principles. Job Duties Performs wildlife management practices and infrastructure maintenance on WMAs in Region 1 with majority focus in the Pinelands work unit (Sussex and Surry counties). Emphasis is to be placed on the Big Woods and Flippo-Gentry WMAs. Assists Lands and Access manager in completing wildlife work to meet Agency program goals and objectives. When necessary, supervises a crew to manage and develop wildlife habitat, maintain or construct facilities and collect biological information. Maintains equipment and inventory of assigned equipment, prepares reports of activities, and maintains a log of work accomplishments. Guidance and direction are generally provided with objectives and timelines for completion dates. The methods for accomplishments are generally the employee's responsibility.
