Sierra Institute is hiring a Wilderness Fuels Module Assistant Crew Lead in California to guide an eight-person crew in fuels management at Lassen National Park. Responsibilities include leading the crew in safely managing trees and constructing firelines using non-mechanized tools. The role may involve mechanical thinning in non-wilderness areas and requires no specific degree. The position offers a salary of $25–27 per hour.
The Sierra Institute for Community and Environment (Sierra Institute), in cooperation with the Lassen National Park (LAVO) is hiring one Wilderness Fuels Module (WFM) assistant crew leader to assist in guiding an eight person crew in performing fuels management in LAVO to promote future prescribed and/or managed fire activities in wilderness areas of the park. The WFM Assistant Crew Leader, under the direction of the WFM Crew Lead, Sierra Institute support staff, and LAVO specialists, will be responsible for leading the WFM crew in safely falling, bucking, and limbing live and dead trees and constructing fireline using predominantly non-mechanized equipment (e.g., crosscut saws, axes, etc.) in undeveloped wilderness areas.
