Job Description
Environmental Consulting & Technology Inc is seeking a Wetland Scientist for their Midwest team. The role involves fieldwork, project support related to wetlands, and compliance with environmental regulations. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in wetland delineation. The position requires travel across the Midwest and offers a mix of office and fieldwork environments. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Wetland Scientist to join our Natural Resources team to assist project managers with natural resource-based projects involving wetlands, threatened & endangered species, and water resource permitting issues. The ideal candidate will be in Ohio or the Greater Chicago area, and willing to participate in weeklong (or greater) fieldwork across the Midwest for at least two weeks per month during the field season. Successful candidates must be highly organized, motivated to learn, and able to navigate various complex projects.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Perform fieldwork, planning, scheduling, and technical support for services related to wetland delineations, natural resources inventories, permit compliance, regulatory support and other environmental surveys
• Travel, including multiple days, in-and-out-of-state overnight travel, is expected for this position
• Provide task assistance to project managers
• Meet deliverable schedules, schedule staff for projects and adhere to budgets
• Support project pursuits through proposal development and collaboration
• Stay current with federal and regional regulations, develop agency relationships, and develop the ability to represent ECT as a professional expert
• Participate in team building including internal training, quality review and mentorship
• Work independently, problem solve, navigate, and learn new and challenging project tasks
• Collaborate with the larger team to schedule project tasks
• Maintain a utilization of 85%

Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences (or similar) with 2-5 years relevant work experience
• Experience related to wetland delineation required, and botanical surveys, threatened and endangered species surveys, native vegetation identification, and state and federal environmental permitting experience preferred
• Renewable energy experience is a plus
• Previous consulting experience preferred
• Experience in state and federal permitting desired
• Strong technical writing skills and QA/QC of data and reporting experience required
Job Essentials:
• Valid Driver's license with clean driving record
• Must be self-motivated with sound professional judgement; able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently with little direct supervision
• Primary duties are located within an office or remote office environment with occasional to frequent fieldwork
• Attention to detail, excellent verbal and technical written communication skills
• Flexible and able to juggle multiple projects and changing priorities without missing deadlines or losing sight of project goals
• Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and desire to learn
