Job Description
NorthWestern Energy seeks a West Safety Supervisor for locations in Butte, Great Falls, Helena, or Missoula, MT. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field, valid driver's license, First Aid/CPR certification, and strong communication skills. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with safety regulations, supervising safety professionals, conducting hazard evaluations, and implementing safety programs. The role requires outdoor work and travel up to 30% of the time.

Qualifications Include
• Bachelor's Degree from four-year accredited college in a safety and health related field; an equivalent combination of education and related experience may also be considered
• Valid non-commercial Drivers License and satisfactory driving record
• First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to attain certification
• Commitment to safe working practices and knowledge of safety policies/procedures
• Ability to demonstrate and maintain an excellent safety record
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information
• Strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to successfully mediate disputes, and the ability to build good working relationships with employees at all levels
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• Excellent computer, analytical, organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
• Initiative, the ability to work with limited supervision, and the ability to be goal oriented
• Ability to read and use maps, diagrams, and other graphically displayed information effectively
• Ability to work up to 40% of the time in an outdoor environment, to travel up to 30% of the time
• Ability to tolerate up to constant sitting while operating computers, completing desk work or driving vehicles
• Ability to pass an employment physical, a drug test and a background check
• CSP and/or CIH preferred
Duties Include
• Demonstrate leadership consistent with NorthWestern Energy's code, values, policies, processes and controls
• Be actively involved in and provide expert opinions on the safety aspects of plans, procedures, practices, standards, specifications and systems to achieve optimal control or reduction of hazards and exposures, which may harm people, property, and/or the environment
• Research and provide expert guidance on OSHA, DOT, EPA and other regulations and recommend strategies for compliance
• Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with current NorthWestern Energy and governmental safety related requirements including OSHA, DOT, etc.
• Supervise assigned safety professionals; providing training, support and mentoring to ensure understanding of overall utility work performed to support company safety system and employee safety
• Support the implementation of safety strategies to ensure that NorthWestern Energy meets the standards of CFR 49, Part 192, 382, and 391 as it relates to RP1162, drug and alcohol and medical surveillance; this includes responsibility for completing DOT inspections and reporting compliance outcomes
• Support the development and implementation of safety programs to ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and best practices Responsible for incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence
• Responsible for hazard evaluations and job safety analyses to identify conditions and actions that could result in injury, illness, or property damage; implement corrective actions and track issues until resolved Identify safety challenges and interact closely with employees and leadership to solve these issues
• Support the organization in the deployment of safety tools, products, and programs
• Support and implement special projects as required utilizing effective change and project management techniques
• Develop, write, maintain and evaluate standards or working documents
• Develop safety training, necessary to develop staff
• Utilizes effective management practices to maintain employee engagement and productivity
• Manage time effectively, work independently, problem solve, and make decisions with or without pressure or in emergency situations with company leadership
• Maintain safety awareness during work activities
• Ensure self and others actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, ission, and strategic business objectives
• Adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics
Full-time position.
$92,900 - $139,300 annually, depending on experience. Benefits include: 401K with company match up to 4% and non-elective contribution up to 7%; healthcare and wellbeing programs, including dental and vision; Health Savings Account (HSA); healthcare and dependent care flexible spending account (FSA); Employee Assistance Programs; Life Insurance; paid time off starting on your first day, plus 11 paid holidays.
