Job Description

The Welder Helper position at Republic of Green in Semmes, AL involves assisting welders with metal structure assembly, preparing equipment, and ensuring safety compliance. The Welder Helper receives instructions from the Operations Manager and Welder pertaining to the assignments and expectations for the day. The Welder Helper will be responsible for assisting in welding and assembling metal structures and equipment using welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools. The role of the Welder Helper is also to help by preparing welding equipment and materials, cleaning work areas, holding materials during welding, operating hand tools, and generally supporting the welder to ensure that all welding operations are carried out accurately, efficiently, and in line with safety regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts.
• Help weld small and large components such as steel.
• Use specialized machinery for welding and oversee machines that perform the same job.
• Help maintain and repair all machinery.
• Help assess welded surfaces, and components to identify errors.
• Help ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Assist in the stocktaking of welding supplies.
• Collaborate with the welder and the manufacturing team to ensure timelines are met.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.

Requirements
Education and Experience Required
• HS Diploma or GED Equivalent from an accredited institution
• Proven experience as a welder
• Experience using electrical or manual tools

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
• Professional Certification/Welding Certificate
• Strong organizational skills & Mathematical skills
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Knowledgeable in TFI/OSHA Safety Requirements

Physical Requirements: Qualified applicants must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds 4+ hours per shift
• Must be able to work in hot, humid, and cold manufacturing environment
• Must be able to work in crowded spaces for 4+ hours per shift
• Must be able to bend and crawl for 4+ hours per shift
• Must be able to crouch, kneel, and stoop for 4+ hours per shift
• Must be able to climb ladders for 4+ hours per shift
• Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for 6+ hours per shift
• Must be able to perform simple grasping, push, pull, perform fine manipulation, and feel for 6+ hours per shift
• Must be able to operate foot pedals for 4+ hours per shift
• Must be able to make fine distinctions in sound, express, and exchange written or spoken words, and distinguish objects and equipment visually
