The University of California, Los Angeles is seeking a Water Treatment and Desalination Engineer for its WaTeR Center. The role involves designing, deploying, and managing reverse osmosis systems for water treatment. Candidates should have an advanced engineering degree and experience with membrane-based systems and process control. UCLA"s Water Technology Research (WaTeR) Center has a position open for an experienced technician/engineer with experience in the design, assembly, and operation of small reverse osmosis (RO) systems for brackish water treatment and desalination. The WaTeR Center specializes in the design and automation of wellhead RO systems for distributed water purification and desalting. The position requires : (a) knowledge of RO systems operation, monitoring, and control systems (e.g., PLC and LabView); (b) interaction with component vendors and system fabricators; (c) laboratory and field tests of system components and refinements of local system controls/monitoring systems; and (d) field deployment and oversight/monitoring of the operation of multiple (2-4) RO systems. The position provides unique opportunities to be involved with, and contribute to, a globally visible program in water technology and interact with water agencies and industry.

The mission of the WaTeR Center is to advance technologies of water production in order to develop new and affordable alternative sources of potable, irrigation, and consumptive water use. The Center"s activities encompass science-based innovation, technology evaluation, advanced education, and rapid information dissemination.

The WaTeR Center is located at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The salary is competitive and will be commensurate with the candidate"s experience/qualifications and includes a medical insurance program.
Major Responsibilities:

Contribute to the design and field deployment of three small new RO/NF systems (2,000 10,000 gallons/day water production)

Contribute to a team effort on the development, evaluation and deployment of membrane-based separation systems (e.g., MF, UF, NF, RO) and integrated system monitoring and control for water treatment and desalination

Oversee/manage 3-4 water treatment and desalination field systems and contribute to associated field research in California

Assist in preparation of reports regarding the operation of the water treatment systems and interface with State certified laboratories and regulators.

Provide systems support for members of the WaTeR Center

Qualifications:

Education: An advanced degree in Chemical, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a field related to the areas of experience described below.

Experience: Development and working familiarity with the design, deployment/operation of membrane-based water treatment/desalination systems (capacity of 1,000 -40,0000 gallons/day) including feed pre-treatment and product water post-treatment/disinfection. Experience with process control systems (hardware and software) including LabView would be a strong asset.

Job Types: Full-time, but part-time is possible.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year commensurate with experience/qualifications.
