Biohabitats is seeking a Water Resources Engineer with a strong background in ecology and experience in nature-based design and/or ecological restoration to join our Southeast Atlantic Bioregion team in Charleston, SC.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, analytical, and engineering skills that can be applied to a variety of projects including planning studies, in-field ecological assessments, and preparation of design plans and construction documents. The successful candidate will work with our multidisciplinary team of scientists, landscape architects, and engineers to support ecological restoration, conservation, climate adaptation and resiliency, and environmental justice work for government, private, and non-governmental organizations.

Role and Responsibilities
• Support a range of planning and design projects (stream, wetland, and shoreline restoration; climate resilience; and stormwater management and green infrastructure design).
• Create site-specific concept designs.
• Prepare design drawings, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Provide construction phase services (e.g. bid support, construction observation).
• Provide graphic communication support on projects and proposals.
• Conduct natural resources and watershed inventories and field assessments.
• Support Southeast Atlantic Bioregion business development activities.
Required Skills, Experience, and Knowledge
• Professional experience related to shoreline restoration, climate resilience, stormwater management, and green infrastructure projects.
• Applied experience supporting design projects from concept through construction drawings and implementation.
• Proficient in the use of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs (e.g. TR-55/TR-20, HEC-RAS, SWMM, HydroCAD).
• Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Microsoft 365.
• Strong graphic, written, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to support or lead field assessments under a variety of weather and site conditions.
• Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the Southeastern United States.
• Love for wild nature and a dedication to restore the earth and inspire ecological stewardship is a must.
Preferred Skills, Experience, and Knowledge
• Professional experience related to stream and wetland restoration projects.
• Coastal systems and modeling knowledge and experience.
• Geomorphic assessment knowledge and experience.
• Restoration construction oversight experience.
• Professional networking experience in Charleston and/or throughout the Southeast.
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in relevant engineering field (e.g. Civil, Environmental or Ecological Engineering)
Years of Relevant Experience
5-8 years of relevant experience as a Water Resources Engineer
Professional Registration
PE or ability to obtain through reciprocity within six months of hire date
Salary Range
$80,000 - $95,000
