Job Description

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is seeking two Water Resource Officers for its Bulk Entitlements and Systems team in Australia. These roles involve providing technical and policy advice on bulk water sharing and river system operations, requiring strong analytical and interpersonal skills. Candidates should have relevant qualifications in engineering, science, or natural resource management. The positions are fixed-term until October 2025 and March 2026, with flexible work arrangements available. Applications close on February 11, 2025.
The Bulk Entitlements and Systems team is responsible for overseeing and driving continuous improvement of Victoria's bulk water sharing and operating arrangements.

There are currently two vacancies in the Bulk Entitlements and Systems team for two Water Resource Officers.

These positions will play a significant role in the team by providing technical and policy advice on bulk water sharing, river system operations, water resource availability and management issues.

Both roles require strong analytical and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work with stakeholders to create credible policy. The successful candidates will work closely with staff across the Water and Catchments Group and the wider water industry on a variety of issues relating to bulk water entitlements, and river system operations and management, including the provision of technical and policy advice to executive staff and the water industry.

This will include working to implement bulk water policy from the Central and Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy and Water is Life: Traditional Owner Access to Water Roadmap - in the Latrobe, Melbourne and Moorabool River systems. The successful candidates will also work with a wide variety of stakeholders, including water corporations, environmental stakeholders and Traditional Owner groups.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
• An appropriate tertiary qualification in engineering, science, natural resource management, or equivalent.
• An understanding of Victorian water resource management is desirable.

There are two a fixed term positions available until 13 October 2025 and 8 March 2026. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
