Job Description

The City of Scottsdale, AZ is seeking a Water Conservation Specialist to develop and implement water conservation programs. Responsibilities include creating guidelines, providing recommendations for outdoor water efficiency, and promoting conservation initiatives. Candidates should have an Associate's Degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. The position requires residency in Arizona and involves site visits and community engagement.
About the position

This position assists in the development and implementation of key water conservation programs, to include educational programs and water-use reduction assistance to all residential and non-residential water customer classes in accordance with best management practices.

Responsibilities
• Develops guidelines, technical reports, estimated water budgets and conducts site visits to assist customers with water reduction through best water management practices in the landscape and for domestic uses.

• Provides verbal and written recommendations regarding outdoor water efficiency practices for large landscapes, irrigation systems, pools and other outdoor water using features to customers.

• Participates in the development and improvement of water conservation databases and collects and enters data to provide program information and statistics.
,
• Participates in the development of public information strategies and materials to solicit the public's support for water conservation programs.
,
• Develops and administers rebate programs that may include equipment research, plan approval and site inspections.
,
• Drives a motor vehicle in order to present water conservation information and sets up exhibits for schools, tradeshows, community events and civic groups.

• Promotes water conservation programs through the use of social media, written materials, presentation and by initiating customer contact.
,
• Creates and administers water use reduction programs to assist single-family and multifamily residential and non-residential water customers.

Requirements
• An Associate's Degree in Sustainability, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Public or Business Administration, Communications, Agriculture Water Management or a related field from an accredited educational institution.

• Two years of experience in water conservation, environmental programming, education, outreach or large landscape water management.
,
• Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.

• Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City.

Nice-to-haves
• Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Public or Business Administration, Communications, Agriculture Water Management or a related field from an accredited educational institution.

• An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
