Job Description

The Environmental Waste Coordinator is responsible for identifying opportunities to sustainably reduce, reuse, and recycle waste throughout their designated Intermountain Health facilities by analyzing and measuring all waste streams. Responsible to manage daily waste escalations for municipal solid waste, recycling, regulated medical waste, confidential document, and pharmaceutical waste. Implement new and changing waste stream programs incorporating people, planet, profit.

Work Schedule
• Full Time, 40 hours per week
• Work Schedule: Monday-Friday and on-call weekends
• Flexible hybrid work schedule with half the time in the field and half working from home

Essential Functions
• Collaborate with Environmental Service leaders for opportunities to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste
• Manage hauler relationships, service frequency, invoicing, and data to meet organization goals
• Proactively interact with internal customers, vendors, and municipalities to optimize compliance, operations, and contract performance
• Travel in company vehicle to designated sites to audit waste containers to keep the program sustainable and compliant
• Coordinates projects and programs that promote safety, collaboration, and teamwork among employees and stakeholders
• Educate and answer employees waste related questions and concerns as the subject matter expert

Qualifications
• 3 years of healthcare environment or waste related experience
• Demonstrated strong communication and the ability to apply influencing practices across a varying range of personnel
• Demonstrated customer service experience
• Proven ability to multi-task and manage both small and large-scale project management projects
• Ability to work independently and be a self-starter with proven experience in problem solving
• Proven organizational skills including the ability to be detail-oriented
• Ability to use a personal phone continuously for work purposes
• Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred)
• Ability to understand a waste invoice, measure volume, and recommend reduction opportunities from analogy (preferred)
• Strong knowledge of State and Federal USDOT, NIOSH, OSHA, and Joint Commission regulations related to waste and/or healthcare (preferred)

• Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs
• Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
• For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$29.66 - $46.72
