Utilities and Sustainability Manager

Ensures the processing of invoices are timely and accurate. Oversees workflows, monitors system performance, troubleshoots issues, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Collaborates with internal teams and external vendors to resolve operational challenges and maintain optimal service levels. Collaborates with local governments, regulatory agencies, customers, and other stakeholders to drive community-based sustainability projects and energy-saving programs. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in data science analytics, applied analytics, business analytics, environmental science, environmental studies, sustainability, or related field.
• Four (4) years of experience in utility management, energy management, analyzing energy conservation data or related area.
• Experience planning, implementing, and managing sustainability programs and initiatives. Experience with energy management systems, environmental regulations, and sustainability frameworks.
• Experience managing utility contracts and service vendors.
• Valid driver's license and ability to establish and maintain driver eligibility under CSU's Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree preferably in data science analytics, applied analytics, business analytics, environmental science, environmental studies, sustainability, or related field.
• Experience implementing environmental or sustainability programs in a higher education environment.
• Professional certifications in Energy Management e.g., Certified Energy Manager, CEM; Sustainability e.g., Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Certification; or Utility Management e.g., Certified Utility Manager (CUM), Certified LEED Green Associate, Green Globes Professional, or equivalent.
• Experience with data analytics tools and utility management software.
• Experience in renewable energy technologies and waste reduction strategies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
• Knowledge of energy management practices, sustainability standards, and green technologies.
• Skilled in utility operations, including energy systems, water, and waste management.
• Skilled in project management, problem-solving, analysis, follow-through, influence and persuasion.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, "Customer Focus" attitude, and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple assignments, ability to prioritize and complete projects independently in a demanding business environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to perform data analysis, budgeting, financial management, and cost control.
• Ability to effectively engage with team members when issues arise to ensure appropriate communication and develop effective resolution plans.
• Ability to organize and maintain data analytics to optimize utility performance and meet sustainability goals.
• Ability to successfully handle multiple assignments, priorities, and projects independently, determine appropriate priorities, make independent interpretations, and make appropriate decisions in the best interest of the organization consistent with the objectives of CSU's leadership.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel functions, Word, Access, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
