About the position

The USGS Actionable Climate-Fire Fellowship offers a research opportunity focused on climate adaptation science in Alaska. The fellowship aims to develop forest and fire impact models using high-resolution climate data, providing actionable scenarios and communication of results to resource management partners. The participant will engage in collaborative research to enhance the capacity of the Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center (AK CASC) to deliver relevant climate impacts information to decision-makers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
• Use existing high-resolution climate data to develop forest and fire impacts models.

• Create actionable scenarios based on climate data projections.

• Develop summary products for resource management partners.
,
• Communicate research results in practitioner and scientific forums.
,
• Engage in dialogues with management partners to assess research needs.
,
• Perform quantitative analysis of climate observations and model projections.

• Synthesize large volumes of climate data to create value-added products such as maps and models.

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to summarize data and develop communication products.
,
• Prepare and deliver oral and written summaries and reports on climate science relevant to fish and wildlife management.

Requirements
• Doctoral degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Climate Science, or a related field, received within the past five years.

• Research experience at the post-graduate level.

• Data science and/or statistical computing skills (R, Python, or similar).

• Experience with geospatial and/or time series data.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience communicating results with stakeholders and collaborating with managers to develop research priorities.

Benefits
• Stipend range of $62,107 - $98,232 annually.
