About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Urban Planning Director to join our team at the Village of Oak Park, Illinois. As a key member of our Department of Development Services, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our community.
Key Responsibilities
• Direct and manage the Planning and Urban Design Division, overseeing the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs.
• Manage and participate in the planning, coordination, and review of the work plan for the Planning and Urban Division; assign work activities, projects, and programs; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.
• Serve as liaison for the Planning and Urban Division with other Village departments, divisions, and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues.
• Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the annual budgets for the Planning and Urban Division.
• Assist in the preparation and revision of planning documents, including the Comprehensive Plan, general plans, and zoning ordinances.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:
• Seven years of increasingly responsible planning and management experience in a municipal government environment, with at least three years of supervisory experience.
• Possession of a Master's Degree in Urban or Regional Planning or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
• AICP membership is desirable.
