Environmental Chemist - Conservation Science

The Urban Environmental Chemist provides expert advice and technical support in assessing, managing, and mitigating chemical-related environmental issues. This role involves conducting detailed environmental studies, interpreting data, and developing strategies to address chemical contamination in water and wastewater. The consultant works closely with clients from industrial, governmental, and non-profit sectors to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities:
• MassDEP Certified Laboratory Supervisor
• Supervise laboratory operations in compliance with MassDEP requirements
• Ensure complete and accurate reporting and data analysis
• Maintain all QA/QC procedures
• Environmental NPDES Monitoring
• Conduct chemical analyses of environmental water samples
• Identify and quantify contaminants, assessing their potential impacts on environment and human health
• Design and implement field sampling programs and laboratory tests
• Data Analysis and Interpretation
• Analyze complex chemical data using advanced statistical and modeling techniques
• Interpret findings and prepare technical reports, including risk assessments and environmental impact statements
• Regulatory Compliance
• Advise clients on compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations
• Assist in obtaining necessary permits and approvals for projects involving chemical use or remediation
• Stay updated on changes in environmental laws and standards
• Consultation and Client Interaction
• Provide expert advice and solutions on chemical management and environmental issues
• Prepare and deliver presentations and reports to clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders
• Facilitate workshops and training sessions on environmental chemistry topics
• Sustainability and Environmental Management
• Promote sustainable chemical practices in client operations
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to reduce environmental footprints
• Support development of corporate environmental policies and strategies
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field
• Experience: 3-5 years in environmental chemistry, consulting, or related areas; proven track record in assessments, data analysis, and compliance
• Skills: Proficiency in chemical analysis techniques, understanding of environmental regulations (EPA, OSHA), analytical/problem-solving skills, effective communication, project management (a plus)
Working Conditions:
• Combination of office, laboratory, and field work
• May require travel to client sites
• Ability to work in various environmental conditions and handle hazardous materials safely
