Job Description
Foursquare ITP is seeking an Urban Designer and Planner for their Design and Visualization team. The role involves supporting various design and planning tasks related to transportation solutions. Candidates must be willing to relocate near one of the company's offices in DC, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, or Baltimore. The position supports hybrid work, allowing remote work at least three days a week.

(Foursquare ITP) is looking for qualified, motivated, passionate, and diverse candidates for an entry or mid-level urban designer / planner position to join our growing Design and Visualization (DAV) team. As an urban designer / planner, you would support a range of design and planning tasks that further our mission of “advancing innovative, practical, and equitable transportation planning solutions to meet a broad array of mobility needs.” The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in transportation, a good grasp of urban design, planning, and graphic design fundamentals, and proficiency in design and analytical software.

Position location
The selected candidate should reside or be willing to relocate to within commuting distance of our Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Atlanta, or Boston offices. Foursquare ITP offers a hybrid work schedule, with the option to work from home at least three days a week. [In office requirements may be adjusted based on commute, tenure, and seniority.]
Position Overview
This role requires someone who can flexibly serve as both a designer and transportation planner. You will work with staff across all our offices and service areas under the supervision of multiple project managers, and as part of our growing DAV team, you will work closely with our other design professionals. Most importantly, this position requires an agile multi-tasker who can tackle design tasks beyond conventional urban design: your day-to-day will also include urban design, analysis, writing, mapping, and visual presentation tasks.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
• Urban Design
• Concept design for transportation projects (primarily transit and complete streets), including but not limited to 3D models and concept plans
• Creating compelling renderings and illustrations that help the public and decision-makers grasp proposed transit, pedestrian, bicycling, and placemaking projects in an accessible and visually appealing way
• Planning:
• Report writing and research
• ArcGIS mapping
• Quantitative analysis using Excel, Remix, and various other in-house tools
• Graphic Design:
• Creating infographics, diagrams, maps, and other information-rich visuals
• Designing and assembling reports, flyers, posters, boards, and other collateral
• Helping with public and stakeholder engagement, project branding, and even wayfinding
Required Qualifications And Skills
The selected candidate must have:
• Urban Design Experience:
• A master’s degree in urban planning, urban design, or a related field (e.g., architecture or landscape architecture). In lieu of a master’s degree, we will also consider candidates with a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of relevant design and planning experience.
• Solid knowledge of transportation planning and urban design principles and practices, with demonstrated capabilities in research, analysis, and visually communicating complex information with excellent graphic design
• Passion for multi-modal transportation and an interest in growing your expertise in the field.
• Software Knowledge:
• Thorough experience with Rhino 3D and/or Sketch Up, and with rendering software like VRay
• Advanced capabilities in Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
• Proficiency in ArcGIS and Microsoft Office. In addition to Word and PowerPoint, proficiency with data analysis in Excel is a must – we produce a lot of charts and infographics!
• Ability to manage workloads and effectively communicate progress and capacity with team members and project managers.
• Other Desired (But Not Required) Skills:
• Experience with other Adobe Creative Cloud tools, particularly those for animation, video editing, mockups, and web design (After Effects, Premiere, XD, Dreamweaver)
• Experience with Tableau, PowerApps, and PowerBI
• Knowledge of coding in R, Python, or HTML
Compensation
Foursquare ITP is committed to pay transparency. Compensation is based strictly on education and relevant work experience. Salaries for this position start at $73,500 and top out at $91,600.
