Job Description

UNDP is seeking 15 UN Volunteers for a functional review and enhancement of the Knowledge4All web portal in Abu Dhabi. Volunteers, preferably experienced full-stack developers, will assess the portal's design, performance, and usability, identifying gaps and suggesting improvements. Deliverables include a Functional Review Report, a Test Cases Document, and a presentation of findings. This initiative aims to enhance the platform for users across the Arab States region.
Mission and objectives

The Knowledge Project is a partnership between UNDP and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation seeking to promote knowledge generation and dissemination in the Arab region and beyond since 2008. It builds on three Arab Knowledge Reports, the Arab Knowledge Index, the knowledge4all portal, the Arab Reading Index, the Future of Knowledge Report and the Global Knowledge Index (GKI).

Context

The Knowledge4All portal is being revamped to improve its functionality and user experience across the Arab States region. The platform offers curated knowledge products, tools, insights, and skills development for policymakers, youth, changemakers, and citizens. We are seeking front-end development experts to conduct a functional review of the portal. Volunteers will evaluate the design, navigation, performance, and usability of the user interface across devices and browsers, identifying gaps and suggesting enhancements to improve the overall user experience. Their feedback will directly inform the design and development teams, ensuring a more intuitive and user-friendly portal.

Task Description

The Knowledge4All portal — a platform that curates knowledge products, tools, insights, and supports skills development to empower policymakers, youth, changemakers, and citizens in the Arab States region — is currently being prepared for a revamp. We are seeking support from experienced full-stack developers to conduct a functional review of the platform and provide technical recommendations. Volunteers will evaluate the portal’s structure, performance, and usability from a functionality and logic perspective. This includes identifying technical issues, gaps in navigation or structure, and opportunities for backend/frontend improvements. The insights gathered will inform the redesign and redevelopment phases to ensure the portal is stable, responsive, and effective in meeting the needs of its users. Key Tasks: -Conduct a full walkthrough of the Knowledge4All portal -Identify technical gaps, broken features, and performance issues -Assess navigation logic, browser compatibility, and responsiveness -Provide clear, actionable recommendations for technical enhancements -Document issues and improvement suggestions in a structured format Final Deliverables: The selected volunteers are expecting to develop three final deliverables, including a detailed Functional review report, a test cases document, and a stakeholder-friendly presentation of findings — with actionable insights and practical recommendations for enhancing the platform’s usability and performance. Here are the detailed of each: 1. Functional Review Report – Includes detailed findings on usability, performance, accessibility, and integration – Highlights issues and offers actionable recommendations 2. Test Cases Document – Demonstrates the breadth of testing conducted – Shows coverage of all major functionalities – Can be reused by development or QA teams 3. Presentation of Findings -Provides a summarized, stakeholder-friendly format -Useful for decision-making and planning improvements
