The position involves mentoring and tutoring high school students in science and math subjects at various schools in Albuquerque, NM. Position Summary:

Organization: LULAC National Education Service Center

Location: Various High Schools around Albuquerque, New Mexico

An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work Study Award

This is an off-campus work study position with the LNESC Upward Bound Program at various high schools around Albuquerque, New Mexico. The student will work one-to-one or in a group setting to mentor/tutor students grades 9-12 in science and math. Days of position are Monday through Thursday from 12:00 PM – 4:30 PM. Upward Bound provides tutoring and mentoring services to help the students at Albuquerque High Schools succeed in various subjects.

Tutor/Mentor will assist students with their coursework in Mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Calculus) and Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). Tutor/mentor is expected to act as a mentor and model leadership behaviors for participating students.

Daily Activities and Expectations Include:
• Provide structured learning experiences during after school hours
• Assist students with homework
• Ensure proper documentation of each session is filled out

Preferred Qualifications:

Student must be able to work in a team, have good communication skills, leadership skills, motivated, a self-starter, be creative, and have a love for learning. Student must have a work-study award for the 2020 – 2021 academic year. Bilingual preferred. Must be able to pass an Albuquerque Public School background check. APS will provide the pass/fail result. Availability to work one Saturday a month.
