Job Description
Greif is seeking a Transportation Planner to manage shipping and inventory operations from home anywhere in the U.S. Responsibilities include preparing shipping schedules, managing inventory, and troubleshooting logistics issues using a Transportation Management System. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience, along with strong problem-solving and communication skills. The role offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.
## About Greif
Greif is a global leader in performance packaging, operating in 40 countries and delivering trusted, innovative, and tailored solutions for some of the world's most demanding and fastest-growing industries. Founded in 1877, the company is committed to legendary customer service, operational excellence, and global sustainability. With a focus on Customized Polymer, Sustainable Fiber, Durable Metal, and Integrated Solutions, Greif packages life's essentials while creating lasting value for colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.
## The Role
As a Transportation Planner, you'll play a crucial part in coordinating our shipping and inventory operations across multiple facilities. This position offers the flexibility to work from home anywhere in the United States while managing important logistics responsibilities.
## What You'll Do
Your day-to-day work will involve preparing shipping schedules, plans, reports, and quotes for customer orders. You'll determine shipping priorities, assign work, and select the most efficient shipping methods. When issues arise in the shipping process, you'll troubleshoot problems and provide direct assistance to customers.
A significant part of your role focuses on our Transportation Management System (TMS). You'll enter truckload rates, accessorial charges, fuel updates, and solve TMS-related issues. You'll coordinate closely with other departments, customers, and trucking firms to ensure smooth operations.
Inventory management is another core responsibility. You'll manage overall inventory levels for our Milwaukee and Sweetwater mills, monitoring and analyzing minimum and maximum inventory levels while developing KPI reporting. You'll oversee odd-lot inventory management and consumption planning, coordinate warehouse space utilization and capacity planning, and work cross-functionally to ensure inventory flows support customer demand. Compliance matters too—you'll ensure accuracy in documentation, maintain inventory standards, and support cycle count procedures.
## What We're Looking For
You'll need a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification, plus 2-4 years of relevant experience in transportation, logistics, or warehouse operations. Knowledge of trucking, transportation, warehouse operations, and shipping/receiving is essential to succeed here.
Beyond technical knowledge, we value strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and excellent time management. Your communication and interpersonal skills will help you coordinate effectively across departments and with external partners. You should have basic accounting knowledge and be proficient in Microsoft Office and TMS software.
## Compensation and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $59,900 to $102,100 annually. Typically, new hires can expect a competitive wage between $70,000 and $75,000, with variation based on market data and factors like your experience, skills, and geographic location. The position may also be eligible for a short-term incentive.
Greif offers a comprehensive benefits package available to eligible colleagues from day one, including medical and dental coverage, paid time off, and other competitive benefits. At Greif, we believe our colleagues are the center of our success, and our Total Rewards program is designed to support your well-being and help you thrive.
## Equal Opportunity
Greif is an equal opportunity employer committed to not discriminating against any applicant or employee based on sex, race, religion, age, national origin, color, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.
