Job Description

The Australian Government is seeking a Tourism and Visitor Experience Coordinator for Parks Australia, based in South Australia. The role involves developing tourism policies, supporting strategic plans, and preparing visitor insights reports. It requires collaboration with park staff and stakeholders, particularly regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues. This is a permanent position offering flexible working conditions, with a salary range of $95,438 - $108,360 per annum.

Identified position
This position is an ‘Identified’ position which signifies that the role has a strong involvement in issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The successful applicant must have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People.

The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 60 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.

CFO and Corporate Services branch provides corporate services to the division including Assurance and Governance, Communication, Marketing and Tourism, Procurement, and Property, Security, and IT.

The Communication, Marketing and Tourism Section works collaboratively across all divisions of Parks Australia and with Traditional Owners and other stakeholders. The section is responsible for the delivery of a range of activities including Media and Communications, Marketing, E-Commerce, Tourism Policy and Destination Planning.

The job
• Contribute to the development and implementation of Parks Australia’s tourism and visitor experience policies, projects, and strategies.
• Support the development of strategic tourism plans.
• Support the development and implementation of tourism activity policies and processes.
• Support commercial tourism activities including authorisations.
• Prepare visitor insights reports from visitor survey data, ticketing information and other sources.
• Prepare documentation including briefs, correspondence, reports, minutes, and agendas.
• Work with park-based visitor service and operations staff and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

What we are looking for
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate the following:
• Experience in the development and implementation of policy and strategy.
• Project management skills, including the ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, set timeframes and ensure deadlines are met.
• Proficiency in developing documentation including briefings, correspondence, reports, minutes, and agendas with attention to detail.
• Understanding of the tourism industry and protected area management, or the ability to acquire this knowledge. Skills and capabilities
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to build relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including with First Nations people.
• Capability to analyse data and complex information, interpret results and present reports clearly and concisely.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and make recommendations to manage complex issues based on sound judgement.

Desirable qualifications
• Experience and/or qualifications in tourism or protected areas policy/management or another related field.
• Experience in data analysis and reporting, with proficiency in Power Bi or similar tools.

Eligibility and other requirements
Citizenship - to be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.

Security Clearance - this position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Pre-employment checks - your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period.
