Candidates should have a degree in Architecture or Interior Design and 2-5 years of relevant experience. Proficiency in design software like Revit is required. This position is onsite in Washington, D.C.
Your Role?
Gensler DC's Government practice is growing, and we are looking for a Technical Designer to join our team. We provide a wide range of services to our public sector clients (Federal, State, and Local government) – from programming and strategic planning to design and implementation of spaces.
As a Gensler Technical Designer with our dynamic Washington, D.C. team, your role is to combine creativity and technical knowledge with business skills to produce functionally beautiful spaces for clients. You will collaborate with your teammates to develop design solutions, coordinate design through the construction documentation and construction administration phases of core and shell and interior architecture projects. Success in this role requires the ability to translate sketches and documents into 2D/3D models and images, research artistic and technical issues, and demonstrate strong work ethics, collaboration, and mentoring skills. Gensler offers an environment to nurture your career growth.
What You Will Do?
• Collaborate on projects involving programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, space planning, and managing budgets and schedules.
• Coordinate with Interior Designers, Project Architects, and Project Managers to meet project milestones.
• Participate in the selection and presentation of furniture, fabrics, equipment (FF&E), color palettes, lighting, and specifications.
• Provide project team coordination for finish plans, specifications, and material selections needed for construction.
• Support and document during the execution of design concepts.
• Work with external consultants, product representatives, furniture dealers, and fabricators to meet project goals.
• Produce graphic presentations including 3D renderings and construction drawings.
• Contribute to plans, elevations, details, specifications, and material selections for construction.
• Provide technical support and documentation during all project phases.
• Assist in managing client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination.
• Establish and maintain productive client relationships.
Your Qualifications?
• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or Interior Architecture from an accredited program.
• 2-5 years of relevant experience in interior architecture and/or ground-up building architecture.
• Proficiency with Revit; familiarity with SketchUp, AutoCAD + 3D, Enscape, VRay, Grasshopper, Rhino, or other visualization software.
• Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and SPEXX is a plus.
• Hand rendering skills are a plus.
• Knowledge of the design process, including FF&E, furniture systems, specifications, color, and materials.
• Strong conceptual 3D thinking and graphic presentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in various stages.
• Effective communication of design ideas and directions.
• Quick learner, adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organization, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to sustainability, with portfolios ideally including projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL, Fitwel, or Net Zero certifications.
Please submit your resume and portfolio for full consideration.
This role is onsite in Washington, D.C. and not remote or hybrid.
• *The base salary range is estimated to be between $67K-80K plus bonuses and benefits, depending on experience. More information can be found on our website: Great People, Great Rewards | Gensler
