Job Description
The Tax Senior - Sustainability - Renewable Energy position at PowerToFly involves advising clients on tax issues related to renewable energy projects. Responsibilities include supporting client engagements, preparing tax returns, and monitoring tax legislation. The role requires collaboration with leadership and other teams, ensuring timely deliverables, and developing client relationships. Candidates should have a relevant degree and 3+ years of experience, with a hybrid work model requiring in-person presence 2-3 days a week.
What you'll doAs a Senior within the Sustainability: Renewable Energy practice, you will advise clients on tax issues related to renewable energy projects. The ideal candidate is invested in the team's success and facilitates work streams while collaborating with leadership to identify process improvements and opportunities for new services. The Senior Consultant will ensure accurate, timely completion of deliverables. The ideal candidate will monitor current and proposed tax legislation and regulations related to renewable energy and sustainability and implement client outreach strategies.ResponsibilitiesSupport renewable energy client engagements and participate in the targeting of new clientsDeliver value to clients by identifying opportunities and advising on eligibility requirements related to the following credits and considerations:IRC section 48 Investment Tax CreditIRC section 45 Production Tax CreditIRC section 45Q Carbon Capture Tax CreditIRC section 45V Clean Hydrogen Tax CreditPreparation of tax returns and advisory services related to modeling and structuring renewable energy tax equity structures, such as:Partnership flipSale-leasebackPass-through leaseMaintain and develop strong internal and client relationshipsDemonstrate sound judgment and a quality-first approach when evaluating eligibility for various fact patternsDevelop processes with colleagues in other technical specialties to perform benefit calculationsCollaborate with member firms, including Advisory and Consulting, to execute work streams such as valuation studies, tax equity modeling, and life cycle assessment ("LCA") studiesIdentify potential issues and propose solutions to leadership, and implement process improvement strategiesEnsure accurate and timely delivery of engagement deliverables, such as presentation decks, executive summaries, credit calculations, completed tax forms, supporting files, memoranda, and IRS audit responsesMonitor legislative and regulatory tax developments and present potential opportunities to assist clientsProvide support with internal initiatives and special tax-related projectsThe TeamWe have dedicated tax professionals committed to implementing our firm strategy in support of clients with their Sustainability initiatives. Our services range from tax planning to tax compliance, controversy, and risk management, including tax credits, government incentives, and tax management consulting.Qualifications RequiredAbility to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per weekBachelor's degree in accounting, finance, law, business administration, economics, or related fieldLimited immigration sponsorship may be available3+ years of related experienceAbility to travel up to 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serveDemonstrated analytical and research skills, as well as effective verbal and written communication skillsProven leadership skills with strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilitiesDemonstrated ability to collaborate and proactively develop internal and external working relationshipsExperience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially ExcelExcellent research and writing skillsExcellent presentation and communication skillsOne of the following active accreditations obtained, in process, or willing and able to obtain:Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPAIf not CPA eligible: Licensed attorney or Enrolled AgentCertifications: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP)PreferredAdvanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLMStrong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple, competing prioritiesExperience working in a virtual…
