Job Description
The Sustainable Transport Officer at Kingston Council will work to promote sustainable transport in Kingston upon Thames. Responsibilities include delivering campaigns, collaborating with local organizations, supporting schools with travel plans, and managing road safety education initiatives. The ideal candidate should have experience in sustainable transport initiatives, project management, and public engagement. This is a full-time position requiring a degree-level education.
About the Role and our Ideal Candidate
About the role
Working within the Sustainable Transport Team to promote the use of sustainable transport modes in order to reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety, air pollution and deliver public health outcomes.
This role requires the successful candidate to:
Delivers a range of schemes and campaigns that promote the use of sustainable modes of transport
Work with the local organisations, community groups and residents to encourage, facilitate and support community based participation to promote sustainable transport, including management of relevant events
Works with Partners and external organisations to support and promote associated programmes and campaigns such as the mini-Holland Programme and London wide TfL campaigns
Engage with local businesses and encourages and supports them to develop Travel Plans
Promotes sustainable and active travel to organisations within the borough, provide them with support to implement sustainable transport events and initiatives
Supports schools to develop and implement School Travel Plans
Assist schools in attaining and maintaining their TfL Travel for Life (STARS) accreditation
Assist schools with promoting sustainable travel to staff, parents and pupils through campaigns, events and initiatives
Designs and implements Road Safety Education campaigns, aimed at a range of groups, including school children and other vulnerable groups
Manages of the School Crossing Patrol Service
About you
Educated to degree level
Experience of promoting and delivering sustainable transport initiatives including roadshows and consultation events
An experienced project manager, used to delivering work on time and on budget
Used to working in a public facing role, communicating with the general public
Experienced in managing small teams of staff
Experience working with health partners, Council colleagues and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including Elected Members, residents, schools and community groups.
