Boston Medical Center is seeking a Sustainable Services Project Manager to join their Sustainability Team. This hybrid role focuses on managing projects to minimize environmental impact in service delivery, supply chain, and waste management. Responsibilities include project planning, data analysis, and reporting on sustainability initiatives. The position requires a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience, with a Project Management Certification preferred. Mostly remote with some onsite work.
POSITION SUMMARY:

Boston Medical Center Health System (BMCHS) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Sustainable Services Project Manager to join our Sustainability Team. BMCHS is a nationally recognized leader in healthcare sustainability, with a track record of emissions reduction; investments in renewable energy facilities; sustainable building design; and other innovations such as our two rooftop farms, where we grow food for patients and staff.

This hybrid role will manage projects to reduce the environmental impact of our service delivery, supply chain, and waste management practices. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with internal departments and external vendors and partners to support BMCHS’s commitment to environmental stewardship, with a focus on optimizing waste streams to reduce landfill waste and incineration. The project manager will collect and manage data and perform basic analytics to allow the Sustainability Team to track progress toward Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). They will also assist in program evaluation and maintaining documentation required for internal and external reporting. They will prepare reports for senior team members and funders regarding status and milestones of our projects.

Location: Hybrid. Mostly remote with some onsite projects, periods last 3-4 weeks.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: ​

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Project Management:
• Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing sustainability projects related to supply chain management, waste reduction, and service delivery.
• Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and report on project outcomes and challenges.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful project execution.

Supporting Sustainability Program Initiatives:
• Support the development and execution of strategies to minimize the environmental impact of BMCHS’s operations, with a focus on waste management and supply chain operations.
• Contribute to the creation of sustainability policies, procedures, and best practices.- Assist in developing and delivering communication strategies to educate staff on sustainability practices and procedures.

Data Analysis and Reporting:
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to environmental impact, including emissions data, procurement data, and waste generation.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders, highlighting progress and areas for improvement.

Compliance and Standards:
• Ensure projects comply with relevant environmental regulations, standards, and certifications.
• Assist in maintaining records and documentation required for audits and reporting purposes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree required in engineering, data/analytics, environmental science, sustainability, business administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Project Management Certification (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is highly desired.

Experience:

2-4 years of relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Knowledge of project management methodologies is required.
• Strong interest in the application of sustainability and environmental stewardship to healthcare operations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong familiarity with project management software, including Scheduling, Planning, Tracking,
• Cost Control and Budgeting Tools.
• Familiarity various software programs and strong computer skills.
• Proficiency in PowerPoint/Excel/Word/Access, Outlook.
• Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
• Leadership skills and ability to be persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.
• Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem- solving capabilities.
• Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the team and staff, ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; to set priorities
• and solve problems; to respond quickly to emergency requests.
• Strong interpersonal skills to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.
